International Activities (Pilot Countries)
Russia - Pilot projects

Current pilot projects and cooperation partners
  • Water treatment and water disinfection Sector: Treatment of drinking water
Aquatechservice Ltd. - SUE St.Petersburg Vodokanal
  • Pickling and degreasing of metal parts
    Cyclon Ltd. - Admiralteyskie Verfi
Project Status December 2010

Good progress was made on the implementation of Chemical Leasing (ChL). Main results are:

  • Financial support from local authorities
  • New cooperation with suppliers of chemicals and services
  • Preparation of demonstration projects, connected with transfer of ecologically clean technologies with implementation of Chemical Leasing models
Basis for this progress were the close cooperation with the Admiralteyskie Verfi, St.Petersburg Vodokanal,
Cyclon and Aquatechservice Ltd., the good political contacts of the general manager of the NWICP - Center
and local expert. Instruments like marketing strategies, regular reports and a structured checklist for all
needed data and information were (further) developed and adapted. All members of the NWICPC are now
well informed about the ChL-project and synergies between CP-projects and financing instruments with
ChL-projects are likely to be used in the future. With the work performed within the last couple of months
a good basis was prepared to implement Chemical Leasing as a business model in Russia. Nevertheless
specific local factors have to be considered.

  • Projects with Cyclon Ltd.

    • Service company Cyclon are providing a surfactant reagent with special cleaning and degreasing
properties. Cleaning and degreasing of metal parts is a process for which ChL is generally
a good applicable business model. Admiralteyskie Verfi produces civil and naval vessels of various
types as well as spare parts and uses alkali solutions for pickling and degreasing. Even if it might
not be possible to completely substitute these solvents, environmental effects seem to be achievable.

  • Projects with Aquatechservice Ltd.
    • Aquatechservice Ltd. company specializes in the rendering of services for maintenance and repair
of hi-tech equipment. ChL project with SUE St. Petersburg Vodokanal related to the reduction of
chemical impact on the environment and providing safe labor conditions for the personnel. The project
aims at the substitution of toxic chlorine by environmentally safe reactants (0.8% sodium hypochlorite solution)
and replacement of toxic liquid ammonia by ammonium sulfate solution in the water preparation technology.
Drinking water preparation with sodium hypochlorite solution is a process for which ChL is generally
      a good applicable business model.

Potential areas for ChL implementation in Russia
    • Water desalting and drinking water purification
    • Advanced wastewater purification processes
    • Advanced sever water purification processes
    • Optimization of the application of glues, soaps, detergents. Reduction of their consumption due to know how suggested by producers and suppliers
    • Household heating systems (optimization of chemicals consumption for cleaning of pipes and radiators)
    • Energy supply - Reduction of chemicals supply for cleaning of heat exchangers
    • Food industry - Optimization of the consumption of cleaning and degreasing agents for cleaning of pipes, equipments, packages and wastewater
